Community Arts Education: Experiencing and Creating Our World

image of Community Arts Education: Experiencing and Creating Our World

The two authors are artists and art educators, creatively active in and across public, institutional and common spaces in the region of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. The research presented and discussed in this chapter emerged and unfolded in this regional city across a decade, without much awareness of what the other was doing. More recently working together as colleagues in the same institution, we became increasingly curious about each other's ways of working at the intersection of creative and pedagogic practice in this specific place and time of rapid change. We were interested in how this milieu of uncertainty impacted on our current and future work as artists and art educators in Geelong, Australia and beyond. Taking up reflective practice as a research method, we discuss and share a series of negotiated tasks, assignments and virtual and embodied encounters, generating new insights emerging in and through our practices.
