oa Fictive Ecologies of the In-Between

image of Fictive Ecologies of the In-Between

Fictive Ecologies of the In-Between explores the creative capacities of fictive ecologies in near-future science-fiction film. As liminal spaces for liminal entities, fictive ecologies present models for potentially radical ideas that offer alternatives to architecture's conventions. The essay looks specifically at recent science-fiction films, their design of organic and inorganic hybridity and their speculative ecologies through the combined lenses of architecture, contemporary philosophy and evolving ideas in the understanding of ecosystems. Each near-future scenario is discussed in terms of its creative capacity to produce particular kinds of objects, entities, atmospheres and interactions in ways that are both rich in theory and innovative with regard to design and its implications for architecture
