Traversing the intersection of architecture and film, this essay explores the relational and internal workings of the filmmakerresearcher as a spatial thinker. Drawing on the making of the experimental short 3xShapes of Home (2020), as well as a multidisciplinary rage of thinkers such as Jean-Luc Nancy, Jeff Malpas, Michael Tawa, Laura Rascaroli and Caroline Levine, the text calls for more knowledge on the spatial and embodied thinking procedures of the filmmaker-researcher. In particular, it discusses the importance of the idea of “going before oneself,” for the thinker and maker of spatial forms.
