Education within art museums and galleries has transformed throughout the last decades from traditional guided tours and one-way communication, to dialogue, active participation, interaction and long-lasting partnerships in order to enhance meaningful engagement with art. Experimental, sensory and arts-based educational approaches now emerge in the art museum spaces as well as outreach approaches to a range of social communities. This chapter is a contribution to what I see as arts-based approaches to education. By introducing what I term Pedagogy of dissensus I seek to extend the current knowledge about how art and art theory can inform teaching in general and in the sites of art museums and galleries in particular. With a university course in visual arts education, as a point of departure, and a study for investigation, I explore how art itself and art theory are useful sources when doing education in the museum and gallery space.
