This chapter discusses an earlier publication of my work that looked at depictions of the human form that I photographed in some of the most prestigious collections in the United States and Europe, spanning mainly from the eighteenth century until the present day. Profiled is not a history of sculpture: it is a conceptual clustering of cultural artifacts, photographs created to highlight the emergence, idealization, and folly of race, including whiteness.
