In this chapter, I will walk through my very own journey and share my lived experience as a Chinese immigrant in the United States. Having a dream to come to this country to pursue my musical ambitions, I realize how valuable my identity is—how it crafts me into an educator who feels for the Asian American community and understands the struggles and challenges we face on an ‘almost daily’ basis. I hope my story will inspire other music educators to be an ally to marginalized populations, and fight against prejudice, bias, and stereotypes in classrooms.
