Abstract

This paper was presented as the opening address at “Images of Madness in the Theatre”, a one-day conference held for World Mental Health Day on 9 October 1999. The conference was held at the University of Huddersfield in conjunction with the Huddersfield NHS Trust and was part of a two week series of events.
