Between 1949 –1994, the Hong Kong film industry produced about 99 films featuring the legendary martial-arts figure, Huang Feihong. Seventy seven of them starred the equally legendary film actor Kwan Tak-hing who became identified with the role, while the other 22 cast twelve different actors, the most famous being Jet Li Lianje for Eastern and Western audiences. The vast majority of these films were made between 1949 –1960. Most of them were directed by Wu Pang with screenplay by Wang Feng, starring Kwan Tak-Hing with Shek Kin (familiar to Western audiences as the villain in Enter the Dragon) usually playing the villain. In these films Kwan Tak-hing successfully cultivated the image of an archetypal Chinese hero holding Confucian values.
