Abstract

As the syringe sticking out of her arm slowly fills with blood, Ermo begs the nurse to stop. The nurse ignores her until she finishes and then, handing Ermo a slip of paper, dismisses her with: "Collect your money." Not until this moment does Ermo realize that her blood donation was actually a blood transaction. From then on she frequently returns to the hospital to sell her blood, each week growing weaker, but each week coming a step closer to her goal: having enough money to buy the biggest television set around
