Abstract

This issue grew out of the editors' wish to foreground the richness of Sri Lankan cinema, and to gather a variety of viewpoints and perceptions on the history and state of the country's film industry. All the contributors agree on the close interaction between the cinema industry and the cultural and social realities of the country. The articles that follow explore the ethnic divide that has affected Sri Lanka for several decades, as well as the historical changes from a colonial country to a nation striving to shape its postcolonial identity.
