Abstract

Abstract

At first glance, Driss Chraïbi and J. M. G. Le Clézio are two divergent writers that might seem to have little in common. However, this study attempts to contribute to the wealth of criticism that exists related to both authors by examining a relatively neglected thread that links their distinct narratives together. Specifically, this investigation probes the undeniable similarities concerning how both authors depict the plight of the immigrant in contemporary western society. Research that endeavours to make intertextual connections between the works of Chraïbi and Le Clézio is rather scant. Moreover, the dearth of criticism that simultaneously examines both authors in a given context is limited to superficial comparisons. For this reason, this exploration seeks to begin to fill this significant research gap and to encourage other researchers to transcend the inherent limitations of this specific study.
