Abstract

This article analyses German and Austrian women’s involvement in the Spanish Civil War. It discusses what motivated their decision to go to Spain, analyses their social and political background and examines their journey, arrival and involvement in Spain. Not only the nature of the women’s involvement in Spain is of interest, but also the questions of how many supported the Republic, when they began to be involved, where they came from, and how they got to Spain.
