Abstract

This editorial introduces issue 16.1, ‘Making spaces for care’, which examines how creative and artistic practices can both enact and explore the, often invisible, labour of care. Through interdisciplinary, participatory and above all, creative processes, the contributions in this volume resist the commodification of care as a lifestyle choice or performative gesture by engaging with its complexities. Discussing projects that include creative writing, participatory photography, collaborative painting and craft-based heritage, the authors critically consider and foster practices of care, by attending to issues of authorship, responsibility and agency.
