This article explores the thematic intersections of Arthurian legend in two notable works: Władysław Pasikowski’s film Pigs (1992) and Piotr Tomaszuk’s adaptation of Tadeusz Słobodzianek’s play Merlin (premiered in 1993). Analysing these works within their sociopolitical contexts of Poland post-1989, the article discusses the nuanced incorporation of Arthurian motifs and their symbolic resonance. The dialogue recognizes the distinct narratives these works belong to. Additionally, the discussion touches on the challenges of categorizing and interpreting the film and play in question within the broader context of cultural adaptation and sociopolitical critique derived from disappointment with political transformation.
