Abstract

Two Special Issues of the () – Volume 11, Issues 1 and 2 – are devoted to the theme of the ‘non-representable’. This introduction gives the background for this theme: the main research questions and artistic research projects in illustration that were developed and presented as part of the major multi-year, international research series ‘Illuminating the Non-Representable’. This initiative was funded by the Norwegian Artistic Research Programme and began in 2018 at the University of Bergen. The series comprised four work packages and three symposia, and further papers were solicited for these themed issues of this journal.
