Abstract

This foreword to the Special Issue, titled ‘A Tourist City: Utopia and Dystopia: Views from the Spanish “Boom”, 1964–75’, provides historical and theoretical context to better understand the dual nature of Spain’s rapid urbanization and tourism-focused development during the period between 1964 and 1975 known as the ‘boom’, and introduces the articles that make up this Special Issue.
