Abstract

Abstract

The article deals with a specific peripheral phenomenon: the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova has begun employing a selection of people who are independently involved in theory (understood in its widest sense; from critique to general reflections) as guards. The Museum is shown as a specific institution that “by accident” enables this phenomenon, while the phenomenon itself and the life stories of the guards reveal common difficulties in various fields: academy, journalism, humanities, critique, etc. The guards-theoreticians persevere; but they must persevere as there are no more “open” spaces.
