Abstract
After almost thirty years, we are proud to present the second joint issue of two long-lived Slovenian cultural magazines – Ekran and Maska. Back in 1997, three magazines joined forces to publish a special issue: one in film and television (then-editor, Stojan Pelko), one in contemporary performance arts (then-editor, Irena Štaudohar), and one in graphic and industrial design: Formart (then-editor, Vesna Teržan). The latter has since ceased publication, just like many professional journals at home and internationally, but the other two have visibly anchored themselves locally and even experienced international visibility. Today, printed media are no longer a mass or dominant way of disseminating professional discourse and the popularisation of art and culture. Even so, both magazines supported by the effort of editors, writers, and readers of new generations, continue enriching and co-creating our cultural space. Maska’s webpage reads that the joint issue back in the day, the topic of which was memory, was published due to “issues with subsidies, and, of course, common interests.” In all these years and despite everything, not much has changed – the reasons for a joint issue remain similar even three decades later.
