Abstract

Deena Weinstein’s provides artefactual evidence of metal subculture and its codes. In review, this seminal text offered important sociological context to inform public discourse in the late 1980s. This article considers the metal codes, participation and identity performance Weinstein purported and their relevance to contemporary metal culture.
