Abstract
The Dead Man Drifted Along in the Breeze presents stills from a video document capturing a computer screen as I navigated Google Streetview, in an attempt to retrace Robert Smithson's walk as described in his 1967 Artforum article 'The monuments of Passaic'. The contemporary video stills are accompanied by quotations from the original Smithson article. It is as if Smithson was writing about a future landscape as documented by the Google cameras; a fragile world of unstable pictures and shifting ground.
