Abstract

These poems and visual art explore my feelings of desire, displacement, alienation and commitment to creating a sense of belonging within Finnish society. These works draw on my lived experience travelling between Europe and the Caribbean, forming a combined literary and visual anthropological project. I see Finland through a Caribbean lens, reflecting on how societal distortions of my personhood intersect with cultural norms and developmental differences. This illustrates how history profoundly influences people’s lives, opportunities, and possibilities across different regions of the world. I navigate spaces as a ‘Flâneur Noir’ and ‘Flâneur Antillais’, continuously envisioning home and contemplating the forces that have shaped my world, walking with the weight of memory.
