Abstract

Abstract

This article describes two works by American artist Robert Whitman working in the field of Expanded Cinema and avant-garde performance, with suggestions for contextualizing and interpreting them as intermedial theatre. These works, and the works of fellow theatre artists from the last 50 years, feature in a discussion of the ongoing question of how audiences relate to screens.
