Abstract

In an examination of defining and confirming the artist–philosopher, I argue that one path of affirmation lies in the construct of desire as interpreted through William Blake’s . Desire and energy become the main points of interest, fusing these concepts as conditions in relating thinking and art to new ideas. Using artist Dean Fox as an example, I stretch the artwork in an unexpected way, attempting to fuse the classical with the contemporary. Ultimately, I posit the movement or energy in (Blake’s) desire offers an unknown that is presented through art contemplation.
