In an examination of defining and confirming the artist–philosopher, I argue that one path of affirmation lies in the construct of desire as interpreted through William Blake’s Marriage of Heaven and Hell. Desire and energy become the main points of interest, fusing these concepts as conditions in relating thinking and art to new ideas. Using artist Dean Fox as an example, I stretch the artwork in an unexpected way, attempting to fuse the classical with the contemporary. Ultimately, I posit the movement or energy in (Blake’s) desire offers an unknown that is presented through art contemplation.
