Abstract
I still have a vivid and clear memory when one of the organizers of the Yogyakarta Documentary Film Festival (Festival Film Dokumenter, FFD) asked me almost seven years ago to write a piece about documentary film for the festival catalogue (Irawanto, 2004). At that moment, I was overwhelmed by a sentimental feeling of being out of place.
