Abstract

My intention is not to preclude political readings of Chinese cultural production. Any piece of fiction contains the potential for political or social commentary in itself. Rather, what I will try to show in this paper is how fiction, because of its fictionality, is able to provide richer ways of interpretation and social commentary, as long as we read it as fiction.
