This editorial reflects on President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping’s visit to the United Kingdom in 2015 and two attendant cultural myths: first, of traditional Chinese culture as essentially harmonious; and second, of Ai Weiwei as an exemplary political dissident.
