Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the time Saudi students spend with different media and whether the time they spend with new mediums will cut into the time spent with other traditional media, particularly television. A time diary survey was administered to a sample of 200 university students to measure the way they spent their time during one 24-hour period. In general, the study has demonstrated that Saudi students shift to the Internet for social and entertainment purposes at the expense of the time they spend on TV viewing. However, there are gender differences in relation to which online activities emerge as the most powerful predictors of television watching.
