Abstract

In the course of a one-hour interview that took place in July 2021, Italian multimedia artist Massimiliano Siccardi, the creative mind behind the 2021 exhibit, discusses the ideas behind the exhibit as well as his vision for the future of immersive art. The former dancer and choreographer explores the possibilities for immersive techniques to revolutionize the concept of spectatorship as a collaboration between artist and viewer. The driving force behind Siccardi’s work is a commitment to the notion that art needs to be experienced, though the nature of that experience remains highly subjective. His work at Carrières de Lumières, and in 2021 with Lighthouse Immersive, exploit the merger of sound and image to create innovative immersive experiences that are intended to inspire the viewer’s appreciation and heighten interest in the works of art at the heart of the exhibit.
